MA v. Karen Read (2025) – Day 6 Trial Summary

Day 6 of the trial proceedings focused on the prosecution’s continued presentation of evidence, balancing highly technical digital forensic data validation with critical eyewitness timeline tracking. The court addressed software-driven automated deletions within phone data extractions during the conclusion of a forensic examiner’s testimony. Subsequently, the prosecution introduced testimony from a close friend of the victim, establishing the sequential timeline of the night in question, the physical movements of the primary parties, and a detailed series of frantic early morning phone communications containing spontaneous oral statements from the defendant regarding vehicular damage and potential impact. The session concluded with the direct examination of the victim’s friend still in progress as court adjourned for the day.

During direct examination by Hank Brennan, McCabe testified that she was actively expecting the defendant and the victim to come inside the house, but they never successfully made it into the residence. According to McCabe, the defendant mentioned she cracked her taillight and repeated variations of “could I hit him, did I hit him” a considerable number of times. McCabe concluded her initial testimony by placing the defendant’s physical arrival at her house at approximately 5:30 AM, at which point the court adjourned with her direct examination scheduled to continue on Day 7.
